WIRETAP JURISDICTION: WHERE IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN ALL ALONG? (UPDATED)
Had the Bush Administration conformed with the existing FISA, there would not be such a brouhaha now. Why on earth could they not get warrants since FISA gives the government 72 hours from the start of the wiretapping to obtain a warrant? In the past very few warrants were ever denied. So what was the problem? I guess the Bush Administration wanted far-reaching blanket warrants and they knew they would not get those. Also, it allowed the Bush Administration to spy on its political opponents... Shades of Nixon.
Whatever it is, the latest development is just a scam as usual. Bush will never renounce his imperial powers.

Ahem! Most of the Muslim world is Sunni. Saudi Arabia -- the great friend of the Bush family -- is Sunni. Do you think for one second that the Saudis are going to support ethnic cleansing in Iraq? Or the rest of the Muslim world? Why do you think that Cheney was summoned to Saudi Arabia in December?

Bush blew off Ford's STATE funeral as well. He is too busy clearing brush in Crawford. He blew off Reagan's as well, but at least he had the excuse of a G8 meeting.

Maybe he has better things to do -- like working -- than pose for photo-ops.
Meanwhile, the U.S. is playing referee in the Iraq civil war and the Decider has just decided to have a "non-decisional" meeting about what to do with the quagmire in Iraq.

His "liberal talking points" are about as liberal as Lenin's, Stalin's, Castro's, Mussolini's, Franco's, Hitler's, Pinochet's, etc... Note that I put left-wing dictators in the same bag as right-wing dictators. Dictators are dictators, whatever their ideological inclination. They all suppress freedom of speech and throw their opponents in jail (or worse).
